Bus route links Lahaina, beyond

Maui County's new "Lahaina Villager" bus route offers a connection between Lahaina Town and surrounding areas.

The Lahaina Villager Route No. 23, which began service last Friday, circles through the Lahainaluna, Wahikuli and Villages of Leiali'i neighborhoods and continues through Lahaina Town from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., connecting with existing county bus service to other areas, including Ka'anapali, Napili, Ma'alaea and Wailuku.



$2M TO GO TOWARD HAWAIIAN HEALTH

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $2 million grant to address Native Hawaiian healthcare needs on Kaua'i.

Hoola Lahui Hawaii will use the money to provide a number of services. They include primary healthcare and dental care, substance-abuse counseling and chronic disease management.

U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawai'i, said Kaua'i is considered an underserved area for Native Hawaiian healthcare.
