Want to grow organic vegetables?

What about if a vegetable garden can offset your living costs and decrease your carbon footprint?

It's the second Saturday of the month, which means the Pearl City Urban Garden Center's monthly program has a new topic for those interested in tropical horticulture and growing fruits and vegetables. Today's topic is vegetable gardening and organic weed control, demonstrated by University of Hawai'i Organic specialist Ted Radovich. Visitors can also see how O'ahu Master Gardeners are renovating a herb garden the organic way and can learn about the benefits of local seeds.

The free 9 a.m. to noon event includes a seed giveaway and an appearance by Gov. Linda Lingle at 10:30 a.m.
