Some of Hawai'i's most talented local musicians will be gathering today at the first Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila to honor the late slack-key icon with an event reminiscent of the backyard jams Pahinui's children remember fondly.

The Pahinui Hawaiian Band — an ensemble bringing together the legend's sons and daughters — will play in a lineup that includes Melveen Leed, Jerry Santos, Pali, The Makaha Sons, Roland Cazimero, the Genoa Keawe 'ohana featuring Pomaikai Keawe Lyman and Gary Aiko, and the Jesse Kalima 'ohana.

The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Waimanalo Beach Park, but no formal schedule has been set.
