Volunteers help save Big Island home

Advertiser Staff

Quick action by Miloli'i and Oceanview volunteers kept a fire from spreading from an vacant oceanfront home late last night until firefighters could get on scene.

The smoldering attic fire on Kai Avenue in Miloili'i was under control by 10:30 p.m. last night after two engines, a tanker and a medical unit responded to the structure fire, firefighters said. The fire was kept to the attic space, damaging an exterior wall near the point of origin without damaging other homes in the area.

The damage is estimated to be about $64,000.
