Big Island mayor released from Queen's

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — Big Island Mayor Harry Kim was released from The Queen's Medical Center this afternoon, and is expected to head home to Hilo late tomorrow.

Janet Snyder, Hawai'i County public relations specialist, said she does not know when the 68-year-old mayor will return to work.

Kim suffered a heart attack at about lunch time on Sunday at his Hilo home. He was stabilized at Hilo Medical Center and then airlifted to Queen's for treatment and tests.

This is Kim's second heart attack in about three years. He was airlifted to Queen's in May 2005 after he became ill at the county Civil Defense headquarters because of what was described as a mild heart attack, but returned to work a few days later.

Kim has been the mayor of Hawai'i County since 2000 and previously served as the county Civil Defense administrator from 1976 to 2000.
