By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Starting leftside linebacker Blaze Soares and key defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea will miss the Aug. 30 season opener against fifth-ranked Florida because of injuries.

Soares has been diagnosed with a torn gastrocnemius, a calf muscle in his left leg. He was fitted for a cast, and has been told the recovery period is between six and eight weeks.

Savaiigaea was diagnosed with a tear in his left triceps. He also was fitted for a cast today.

Savaiigaea said he will remain in the cast for a week, after which he will be re-evaluated. But he has been told the recovery period is between four and six weeks.
