Advertiser Staff

A 24-year-old man was arrested early today in Waikiki for allegedly punching a police officer and damaging an Honolulu Police Department transport vehicle.

The suspect, who refused to give police an address at booking, was arrested at 3:55 a.m. fronting 2464 Kalakaua Ave. for investigation of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and fourth-degree criminal property damage.

The alleged attack occurred at about 3:45 a.m. while officers were attempting to break up a fight on the street.

A 26-year-old Kalihi man involved in the fight refused to comply with police orders to stop and allegedly became combative, forcing police to Taser him.

The assault suspect allegedly approached an officer from the rear and punched him at least twice in the back of the head. While being transported to the main station cellblock for booking, the man allegedly damaged the window frame and equipment in the vehicle.

Charges are pending.
