Gold's Gym said today it will close its Kaka'ako location on Aug. 31 and transfer its memberships to Powerhouse Gym located a few blocks away.

Gold's Gym International Inc., based in Irving, Texas, informed the staff at the Honolulu location of the shutdown yesterday.

Gold's has negotiated an agreement with Powerhouse Gym owners Alvin and Keri Paguio that will effectively transfer approximately 1,500 active memberships from Gold's to Powerhouse Gym.

All Gold's Gym Honolulu active members will be receiving letters informing them of the closure, and notifying them of the membership transfer to Powerhouse Gym, the company said in a news release.
