Man charged with punching police officer in Waikiki

Advertiser Staff

A 24-year-old man was charged today with allegedly punching a police officer early yesterday in Waikiki.

Christopher Uhatafe, who refused to give police an address at booking, is accused of first-degree assault of a law-enforcement officer. His bail is $11,000.

Uhatafe was arrested at 3:55 a.m. fronting 2464 Kalakaua Ave. The alleged attack occurred at about 3:45 a.m. while officers were attempting to break up a fight on the street.

A 26-year-old Kalihi man involved in the fight refused to comply with police orders to stop and allegedly became combative, forcing police to Taser him. Apparently upset that a Taser was used, Uhatafe allegedly approached an officer from the rear and punched him at least twice in the back of the head.
