Weather: Clouds and a few showers expected today

A west-moving weather system will bring clouds and showers to most of the state today, the National Weather Service said.

A cloud swirl south of the islands will add to the wet weather over the south part of the Big Island.

The trades are expected to strengthen during the weekend and bring more settled weather with them.

Here's a close look at what to expect during the next few days:

Today: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. East wind between 8 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
