Traffic to Waikiki near the Hawai'i Convention Center was being slowed by lane closures on Kalakaua Avenue tonight due to road damage caused by problems related to an eight-inch water main break.

Board of Water Supply crews repaired the broken main, which was reported at 4:30 a.m., but had to return later when a leak in the same main was detected at 2:30 p.m. Repair work on the leak was completed by 7:30 p.m.

All four makai-bound lanes on Kalakaua Avenue between Kapi'olani Boulevard and Ala Wai have been closed most of the day. A single ewa-bound lane is being utilized to contra-flow traffic to Waikiki.
