Kaneohe Marines to practice-fire big guns Friday

Advertiser Staff

Marine Corps Base Hawai'i, Kane'ohe Bay will conduct gun salute practice using four M102 105mm howitzers tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Landing Zone West Field at the airfield.

The practice is in preparation for next week's change of command ceremony for Lt.Gen. John F. Goodman, commanding general, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.

Battery C, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment will conduct the salute.

In the Marine Corps, the M102 105mm howitzers are often used for ceremonial purposes, but in extremely limited roles, primarily firing salutes only for senior military and government officials.
