Advertiser Staff

Hilo beat Johnston, Iowa, in the Little League Juniors (ages 13-14) World Series, 11-3, yesterday at Taylor, Mich., to clinch first place in the U.S. pool.

Jayce Carvalho hit a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the second for Hilo, which completed pool play with a 3-1 record. Kean Wong had a three-run homer in the second against Johnston, the U.S. South champion.

Hilo, the U.S. West champion, will play the U.S. pool runner-up tomorrow at 2 p.m. Hawai'i time.

The winner of that game will face the International pool winner at 11 a.m. on Saturday for the World Series title.
