Weather: Scattered showers to hang around a while

A building high pressure area near the islands will increase trade winds to moderate levels during the weekend, the National Weather Service said.

Rainfall will be light with showers limited mostly to windward slopes.

Trade showers will increase somewhat from Sunday into Monday, especially on the Big Island.

Here's how things look heading into the weekend:

Today: Isolated showers before noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 8 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Scattered showers, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
