'Tropic Thunder' Kauai premiere set for today

LIHU'E — The movie "Tropic Thunder" starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. will make its Kaua`i premiere today at Kukui Grove 4 Cinemas in Lihu'e.

The motion picture was filmed almost entirely on Kaua`i and more than 300 local extras were hired for the movie. From scouting, pre-production, filming and to final cleanup, the production was on Kaua`i from December 2006 to November 2007.

According to Art Umezu, Kaua'i film commissioner, the production carried an overall budget of more than $100 million with Kaua`i expenditures of more than $60 million, making Tropic Thunder one of the largest budgeted movies filmed in Hawai`i.
