Junior College transfer Brent Rausch officially was named the No. 1 quarterback today by the University of Hawaii.

Rausch beat out Inoke Funaki and Greg Alexander, who are now listed as co-No. 2 quarterbacks.

Rausch, a transfer from College of the Desert (Palm Springs, Calif.), was third on the depth chart last week. But since Saturday, he has received the highest scores every day as the coaches rate every pass of every drill of every practice.

Rausch played eight-man football in high school. At the College of the Desert, he played 11-man football for the first time in years.

UH opens its season at Florida.

Alexander did not practice today because of ingrown toe nail on his right foot and a tender left ankle.
