Council committee will review bus stop study

The Maui County Council's Planning Committee will review a study on bus stop planning and design at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Kalana O Maui.

Ridership on the Maui Bus is rapidly growing, and committee chairwoman Gladys C. Baisa said there is a need for shelters and better signage at bus stops.

The county Department of Transportation said the 2-year-old bus system recorded 1.4 million boardings in the just-ended fiscal year.

The study by a consulting firm examined the system's 150 bus stops for safety and accessibility and identified the need for improvements such as concrete slabs, benches and shelters.
