Woman critical after being hit by truck

Advertiser Staff

An 86-year-old woman remained in critical condition last night after being hit while riding a power chair in a crosswalk near the Wal-Mart store on Ke'eaumoku Street.

Police said the woman was hit at 6:54 a.m. on Sheridan Street between Makaloa and Kamaile streets by a truck and trailer driven by a 37-year-old man.

The truck dragged the woman to the loading gate at Wal-Mart, police said.

Speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors.

Police said the size of the truck may have made it difficult for the driver to see the woman.

The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center for treatment of arm and torso injuries, police said.
