'Iolani put an emphatic cap on a dominant opening weekend by Interscholastic League of Hono-lulu football teams last night, blitzing Kamehameha-Maui, 39-0, in the feature game of the Father Bray Classic at Aloha Stadium.

The ILH went 5-0 against nonleague opponents this weekend.

"It's a really tough league, and it's getting stronger," said 'Iolani quarterback Kela Marciel, who completed 14 of 22 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns and added 82 yards and two rushing TDs. "All of the guys are getting stronger and faster."

The defending Division II state champion Raiders put on an impressive display despite losing many of their top skill players to graduation. They went 68 yards in only five plays on their first possession, culminated by Marciel's 10-yard run, and made it 13-0 midway through the first quarter on Marciel's 12-yard TD pass to Brandon Ball.

'Iolani extended the lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter on a 38-yard touchdown strike from Marciel to Trevyn Tulonghari, then went up 26-0 shortly after on Marciel's 7-yard keeper.

"They're looking very good, they're very sound in all aspects," Kamehameha-Maui coach Leo Delatori said of the Raiders. "We don't see that kind of (no-huddle) offense on Maui, and they have a heck of a quarterback."

PAC-FIVE 50, WAIALUA 7

Darin Kamealoha caught six passes for 132 yards and one touchdown and also scored on a 59-yard run on a fake punt to propel Pac-Five in the first game of the Father Bray Classic.

On the game's opening possession, the Wolfpack faced a fourth-and-16 from their own 41, but Kamealoha took the punt snap and raced around right end and then down the sideline for a touchdown. Later in the first quarter, linebacker Caleb Alipio tackled a Waialua runner in the end zone for a safety, putting Pac-Five up, 9-0.

Kamealoha returned the free kick 35 yards, setting up PJ Minaya's 3-yard TD run on a quarterback keeper to help give the Wolfpack a 16-0 lead with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs answered with a 67-yard touchdown pass play from William Sacapulu-Ueda to AJ Hernandez, cutting it to 16-7 with 1:48 still left in the first quarter. But Pac-Five made it 23-7 on a 7-yard TD pass from Minaya to London Amorin, and linebacker Kaimi Kanehailua recovered a fumble on the Waialua 4-yard line and ran it in to help give the Wolfpack a 30-7 halftime lead.
