Big Island has 7 new police officers

Chere Rae Lyons (academics), Benjamin Nishimoto (firearms) and Wyattlane Nahale (physical fitness) received special recognition for excellence in training as members of the Hawai'i Police Department's 74th Recruit Class.

The seven-member class were recognized Thursday in ceremonies at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Nishimoto also served as class president, Nahale vice president, and Lyons secretary/treasurer.

Other class members were Courtney Bello, Joshua Flynn, Chester Franco and Jess Lambert.
