Charter school official to discuss science education

The Governor's Maui Community Advisory Council will hear from Gene Zarro, chairman of the Kihei Charter School and South Maui Learning 'Ohana, at its monthly meeting at 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Cameron Center.

Zarro will speak on the role of charter schools in the educational system and provide an update on Kihei Charter School's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Academy for students in grades 6 and 7. The STEM Academy, which opened in August 2007 at the Maui Research and Technology Center, is designed to prepare students for advanced science and math education.
