KALIHI
Abercrombie sponsoring college loan workshops

College-bound students and their parents can learn more about paying for higher education with federal financial assistance and low interest loans at two workshops this week, including one tonight at 7 at the Farrington High School library.

The second session will be at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Campbell High School in 'Ewa Beach.

The College Financial Aid Night is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawai'i, and will feature Lorraine Teniya of the Hawaii Educational Loan Program, Frank Green of Travel Institute of the Pacific and Jannine Oyama of the financial aid office at Honolulu Community College.

More than 10,000 Hawai'i college students receive federal Pell Grants and 8,700 more have obtained need-based federal student loans, Abercrombie said. The workshops will explain how to access these programs.
