Now more weather info in toll-free phone call

NOAA's National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu has launched an improved weather information phone system for Maui County.

The new toll-free number is 866-944-5025.

Callers will continue to hear forecasts for Maui communities, coastal waters, tides, and sunrise and sunset information, said Jim Weyman, meteorologist-in-charge of the Honolulu office. The new automated system also will provide a menu of options such as the Haleakala summit forecast, coastal wind observations and buoy reports.

Weyman said the new toll-free number will eventually replace the current recorded-weather phone numbers — 877-5111, 877-3947 and 877-3949 — but for now, those connect automatically to the new number.
