High winds curtail prescribed burn

Advertiser Staff

High winds curtailed today's prescribed burn of the 1,200 acre area for range maintenance, U.S. Army officials said.

The area is north of Kolekole and Trimble roads and west of the Maile Terrace and Kolekole Ridge and Hendrickson Heights military housing area. Fire and safety officials putout the burn, which covered less than 100 acres and will monitor the area throughout the weekend.

Residual smoke from the burn may be seen by residents.

The prescribed burn is part of the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawai'i's ongoing plan to manage and protect range areas, decrease the danger of wild fires and survey for depleted uranium.
