LITTLE LEAGUE DIARY

Timo Donahue, manager of the Waipi'o baseball team in the 11- to 12-year-old Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., provides insights from youth baseball's oldest and most prestigious tournament. Waipi'o is the 10th Hawai'i team to compete in the World Series, which started in 1947.

There was a party at the house (where some parents are staying). We had over 100 people there.

Today was my wife's birthday and ESPN was there and they did something on it.

We had a pig. (It) was roasted. The Pineapple Man, Billy Obedoza, and Kiha Akau, my coach, cut the pig. It tasted good.

Everybody was in a festive mood.

They had a pool and kids went swimming. They also went on a hay ride.

It was relaxing for the boys, and for the families, too, because they've been going nonstop.

Saw bits and pieces (of yesterday's win by Lake Charles, La.).

They're a good team. It's going to be a tough task as all have been.

Every game we played in the past, from the state tournament on, have prepared us for this.

I want to tip my hat to Kaimuki (in the state final) and Nevada (in the regional final) who prepared us for this.

ENDLESS JOURNEY

The record to get here is 27 hours (to get from Hawai'i to Williamsport, Pa.), counting all the layovers.

That's how long it took our league president (Lenny Fabro). They're here now.
