Surf's up in Chinatown

Local indie publication 808 Scene Zine has teamed up with production company The808Wonderland to promote a live-music series, and the first show is tonight at Bar 35. Check out the Chinatown Surf Lounge, with performances by surf-pop-revival bands Tiki Taboo and Dr. Zaius, along with DJs Miss Kitty Chow and DJ Mr. Nick. As an extra bonus, the promotion team will be giving away free tickets to the Kowabunga! Summer Cinema Surf Safari film festival, Monday to Sept. 13 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Doris Duke Theatre.

The guitars will twang from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. tonight at Bar 35, 35 N. Hotel St.; $10, 21 and older; www.the808scenezine.com.
