Canstruction projects

Watch giant sculptures come to life — all created from canned goods — at the third annual Canstruction Competition, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Pearlridge Center, Uptown.

Thirteen teams of architects, designers and engineering pros are taking part in the event, which benefits the Hawaii Foodbank (all cans will be donated Sept. 7, when the de-canstruction happens).

Last year's Canstruction brought in more than 42,000 pounds of canned food.

Members of the public can do their part, too, by voting for their favorite creations in the People's Choice Award: One donated can of food equals one vote. 488-0981.
