Alex Ching leads OCC Invitational

Defending champion Alex Ching shot a 3-under-par 68 to take a one-shot lead after the second round of the Oahu Country Club Men's Invitational yesterday.

Ching, a recent Punahou graduate who will attend the University of San Diego, was at 6-under 136 entering today's final round. 'Iolani's David Fink, the first-round leader, shot a 71 and was at 137.

Travis Toyama was in third at 140 after a 71. Matthew Ma shot the low round of the day (67) and was at 142.

The low 30 players and ties advanced to the final round. The leaders are scheduled to tee off at 12:15 p.m.

Gary Kong shot an 80 yesterday to win the senior flight with a two-round 150. Phil Animizu (75), Merv Matsumoto (76) and Ron Ching (77) tied for second at 152.

The OCC team of Ching, Fink, Brandan Kop, Gary Kong and Jeff Weinstein captured the team title with a two-round 566.
