Film industry insiders offer free lectures

Hawaii film industry insiders will share their wisdom during "Seeing Stars," a series of four free lectures next month at the Salt Lake-Moanalua Public Library.

The lectures will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the library, 3225 Salt Lake Blvd. A question and answer session will follow each talk. Call 831-6831 for more information.

Here's the schedule:

• Sept. 9: The Academy of Creative Media, University of Hawaii's filmmaking program, will be featured.

• Sept. 16: Versatile local actor Dann Seki, whose TV appearances include "Magnum, P.I." and "Lost," will explain how to make money by being an extra.

• Sept. 23: State film commissioner Donne Dawson will discuss how the state attracts film projects and the economic impact.

• Sept. 30: Producer Margaret South will present "The Art of Story," a look at how the film industry develops good stories.
