Firefighters still battling flareups at Wailea blaze

Firefighters were still battling a wildfire yesterday in the Wailea area of south Maui that had burned an estimated 155 acres of vacant land covered with kiawe and brush but was no longer posing a threat to homes, county officials said.

The Maui Fire Department helicopter and 38 firefighters were dealing with flareups.

Residents of seven homes on Makamae Place in the Maui Meadows subdivision who had been evacuated as a precautionary measure Saturday returned home last night.
