Kalaeloa Blvd. traffic may be slow

Advertiser Staff

West O'ahu motorists who travel on Kalaeloa Boulevard are warned that there may be lane closures this week, and that they should be prepared for more significant construction diversions beginning next weekend as the result of a project designed to widen the road from four lanes to six.

Kapolei Property Development Co. spokeswoman Theresia McMurdo said there may be "a few instances of lane closures this week" as workers pave temporary lanes.

Either Friday or shortly thereafter, traffic along the boulevard going makai-bound will be diverted onto the temporary lanes. When that happens, left turns will not be allowed from Kalaeloa Boulevard makai-bound onto Kapolei Parkway into Kapolei town. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

That left-turn restriction will be in place through the end of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in spring 2009.

The first phase of work involves rebuilding and widening Kalaeloa from four to six lanes between the interchange and the railroad tracks.

The intersection of Kalaeloa and Kapolei Parkway will also be improved by adding turn lanes in all directions. The first phase of work is expected to be completed by spring 2009.

Periodic construction updates will be available by calling 674-3363 for a recording with the most current information.
