Tammy Duckworth, a graduate of McKinley High School and the University of Hawai'i, will speak tonight to the Democratic National Convention about military policy and veterans care.

She is currently director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.

In November 2004, while she was co-piloting a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter north of Baghdad, a rocket-propelled grenade hit the cockpit. Her injuries forced the amputation of both her legs.

She is scheduled to speak to the convention between 4 and 5 p.m. Hawai'i time today.
