Kauai police ID two men killed in crash

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i police have identified two men killed in a head-on collision on Kuhi'o Highway near Hilton Kaua'i Beach Resort yesterday.

Colin Sunada, 32, of Lihu'e, died at the scene of the crash and Benhur Nono, 44, of Kapa'a, died at Wilcox Hospital, police said. Both men were driving.

Injured in the crash was Sunada's wife, Marry Sunada, and 6-month-old daughter, who were flown to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition last night, police said. Marry Sunada is now listed in serious condition, Kaua'i police said.

The child's condition was not released.

Police said a preliminary investigation shows Nono was traveling north-bound on Kuhi'o Highway when he crossed the center line and struck the Sunadas' vehicle at about 4:42 p.m. There were no passengers in Nono's vehicle.

It was not yet clear whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
