Jaguars release Kealakehe alum Mahelona

Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars waived third-string quarterback Todd Bouman, fifth-round draft pick Trae Williams and 17 others in final roster cuts Saturday.

The Jaguars placed defensive back Chad Nkang (hand) and defensive end Jeremy Mincey (wrist) on the physically unable to perform list and placed defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis (knee) on injured reserve.

Running back Ciatrick Fason, linebacker Tony Gilbert, defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona and defensive ends Kenny Pettway and Bo Schobel were among the veterans released.

Tight end Chris Brown, defensive end Mkristo Bruce, offensive tackle Andrew Carnahan, tight end Charles Davis, cornerback Isaiah Gardner, cornerback Michael Grant, receiver Ryan Hoag, offensive lineman Pete McMahon, center/guard Drew Miller, cornerback Rashod Moulton, linebacker Lamar Myles and receiver D'Juan Woods were among the first-year players let go.

One undrafted rookie, speedy cornerback Brian Witherspoon, made the roster. And coach Jack Del Rio kept three injured players — center Brad Meester (biceps), receiver Jerry Porter (hamstring) and defensive tackle Derek Landri (knee) — on the active roster in hopes they will return soon.

The Jaguars also went with six receivers, keeping Matt Jones and Troy Williamson.

Jacksonville can sign eight players to the practice squad Sunday, and most of them will be guys released in final cuts.
