All things Okinawan will be celebrated at the 26th annual Okinawan Festival this weekend. That means pig's feet soup, yakisoba, Okinawan soba, shoyu pork, Okidog (hot dog and chili, wrapped in a tortilla with shredded shoyu pork and lettuce), andagi, and Andadog (hot dog on a stick, dipped in andagi batter and deep-fried). OINK! Yes, that's just the food.

There's entertainment, too, by performers from Okinawa and Hawai'i; a big bon dance at 5 p.m. today on the Kapi'olani Park field (all are invited to participate); kids' games; a country store; and a Cultural Tent of ceramics, glassware, textiles and bonsai plants and demonstrations of calligraphy and flower arrangement.

At the Craft Gallery, you can also buy an unglazed pot or bowl and glaze it yourself, and it will be fired, raku style, for you to pick up and take home.

Expect a crowd, too. If past festivals are any indication, more than 50,000 folks could show up over the two days.˔
