Parade of Champions Monday in Waikiki

Advertiser Staff

A whirlwind month of sports success culminates at 5 p.m. Monday with a special Parade of Champions in Waikiki.

This is the one chance to salute the Waipi'o Little League world champions, other 2008 national title holders and past and present Hawai'i Olympians.

"This will be a wonderful celebration and a great opportunity for fans and supporters to see and congratulate Hawai'i's sports heroes and heroines in person," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said in a released statement. "We're all tremendously proud of their accomplishments."

The parade down Kalakaua Avenue, from Fort DeRussy to Kapi'olani Park, will culminate with a special Sunset on the Beach event on Queen's Surf beach at 6:45 p.m., featuring a film presentation and live entertainment.

Businesses and other organizations interested in co-sponsoring the event may call Customer Services at the same number.

Parking is expected to be difficult in Waikiki on Labor Day, and the public is encouraged to plan accordingly or use public transportation.
