Final day of Roxy Pro women's surfing meet on today

The final day of the Roxy Pro women's surfing contest is on today at Sunset Beach.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and final are scheduled to be completed today. Wave-face heights are in the 5- to 10-foot range.

The heats were to start around 8:30 a.m., and finish around 12:30 p.m.

The contest is the second of three in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series for women. It will also count toward the 2008 ratings for the women's World Championship Tour.

Australians Stephanie Gilmore and Layne Beachley, and Peru's Sofia Mulanovich are the top contenders for the world title.

Hawai'i surfers in the contest are Megan Abubo, Melanie Bartels and Coco Ho.

The men's division will not surf today.
