Big Island police identified the man who died Saturday while in custody as 47-year-old Barry Joseph Curl of Hilo.

A Coroner's Inquest investigation is being conducted by the police Criminal Investigations Section and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police Internal Affairs is conducting an independent administrative investigation to see if any department policies and procedures were violated in connection with Curl's death.
