High surf warnings, advisories continue today

A high surf warning remains in effect for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai and Oahu, while a high surf advisory is in effect for the north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui, the National Weather Service said.

Wave faces of 15 to 20 feet are expected early today along the north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai and Oahu. The surf is expected to build throughout the morning, reaching 20 to 25 feet by midday, and continue above the warning level through Friday.

Surf along west-facing shores on Niihau, Kauai and Oahu is expected to reach 10 to 15 feet early today and to reach the warning level of 15 to 20 feet by midday. Surf along the west-facing shores is expected to continue above the warning level through Friday.

Meanwhile, a high surf advisory is in effect for the north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui. On those islands, surf of 12 to 18 feet is expected today along the affected shorelines. The surf will likely remain above advisory levels on Molokai and Lanai through Friday, the National Weather Service said.

The current northwest swell is expected to peak early Friday morning, the Weather Service said.

Elsewhere on Oahu today, the surf is expected to reach 1 to 3 feet along east-facing shores and 2 feet or less along south-facing shores.
