Mapunapuna distributor fined in deposit beverage program

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Health Office of Solid Waste Management has assessed a $3,500 fine against a Mapunapuna company for allegedly violating provisions of the state's deposit beverage container program.

The fine was lodged against Five Star Transportation, which distributes deposit beverages in Hawai'i. The company is located at 689 Kakoi St. in Honolulu.

State law requires deposit beverage distributors to submit monthly distributor reports and payments to the DOH no later than the 15th calendar day of the month following the end of the payment period of the previous month.

Five Star Transportation was cited for alleged late payments and reports submitted for the months of August 2006; May, April and October 2007; and May, July and August 2008.

DOH has assessed a penalty of $3,520 against Five Star Transportation for its alleged failure to comply with program requirements.
