Lifeguards rescued eight people today along O'ahu's North Shore and issued 700 verbal warnings to swimmers, said Bryan Cheplic, Honolulu Emergency Services spokesman.

The large northwest swell continues to slowly diminish along north and west facing shores, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile the county Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Service Division rescued eight swimmers, with one requiring the use of a personal watercraft, Cheplic said. On Thursday, lifeguards rescued 14 people, eight of which required Jet-Skis, and issued 1,200 verbal warnings, Cheplic said.

The surf along north facing shores will be 15 to 20 feet, and subsiding to 12-16 feet tomorrow.
