Lynda Caris of Makiki, creator of Muse IX Designs jewelry, travels the world to find semiprecious and precious gems, as well as the most exotic beads and pearls. Her current inspiration is the sea — not just the Pacific, but also the Aegean, where the Greek Isles of her heritage always beckon to her. Woven together, with whimsy and a sense of celebration, are keishi and biwa pearls, gemstones and 24-karat Greek gold-glazed terra-cotta beads.

Caris introduces her latest collection, "Ocean Jewels Island Couture," from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Macy's, Ala Moana Center. The collection will also be sold at three Nohea Galleries: Ward Warehouse, Kailua and in the Westin Moana Surfrider; $68 to about $300, 554-8866.

THE KISS OPENS AT ALA MOANA

The Kiss, a new concept store from Japan, opened just in time for Christmas, specializing in "couples jewelry" fashioned from silver.

In Hawai'i, the jeweler will feature Island-inspired designs, including a line exclusive to Hawai'i: Memoir, an "upscale traditional Hawaiian jewelry line," including an initial pendant and two-ring necklace. The mostly unisex line also comes in 14-karat gold in shades of yellow, green, rose and white; $45 to $2,700.

A collaborative collection with local contemporary Hawaiian jewelry brand MAXI includes rings, bracelets and gifts for men: money clips and cufflinks; $190 to $830. And Kapio, an Island-inspired casual, souvenir-oriented line, features plumeria, slippahs and maile leaf designs; $16 to $85.

Los Angeles-based aesthetician Kate Somerville is responsible for the glowing complexions of some of the most-photographed faces worldwide. We are sad to report that Koko Cabana, a beloved boutique that drew many fashionistas to the Koko Marina Center, closed its doors earlier this month.

Now Summer Vaimoana, owner of Soleil boutique in Kapahulu, said she plans to close on Dec. 31. Be sure to get in soon for her sassy Nicacelly skirts and dresses from Tav, as well as her unique accessories. We hope to see her again in another venue as she offers Polynesian style with an urban edge, something we all can use in our closets.
