CBKB: Portland defeats Idaho, 68-65

Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. — Guard Nik Raivio scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Portland squeaked past Idaho for a 68-65 victory today.

Idaho (4-4) hurt its chances by turning the ball over 20 times to just 11 miscues by the Pilots. Portland (5-2) took advantage by outscoring the Vandals 22-9 off turnovers.

Portland shot poorly from the floor, making just 21 of 55 shots for 38 percent, compared to 57 percent for Idaho.

While Portland was having trouble finding the range, Idaho was able to run off 10 unanswered points early in the second half to take a 40-37 lead.

Portland native Mac Hopson, who led the Vandals with 21 points, had two baskets and an assist during that run.

The lead changed hands three more times before Portland regained it with a 3-pointer from T.J. Campbell that made it 46-44 with 14:24 remaining. The Vandals never led again.
