Associated Press

TEMPE, Ariz. — Sade Cunningham and Janelle Matthews hit free throws in the final 1:12 to lift Northern Arizona over Hawaii, 61-58, today at the Arizona State Classic.

The Lumberjacks (2-6) will play No. 25 Arizona State in the championship of the tournament on Sunday after the Sun Devils beat Cal-Irvine 75-23 in the first game on Saturday.

The Rainbow Wahine (1-7) will play Cal-Irvine (3-3) in the consolation game on Sunday.

Matthews, who led Northern Arizona with 12 points, hit two free throws with 15.6 seconds remaining to give the Lumberjacks their final margin. Hawaii's Megan Tinnin missed an off-balance 3-pointer with three seconds left that would have sent the game into overtime.

Keisha Kanekoa scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Hawaii while Dita Liepkalne added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Liepkalne committed two turnovers in the final minute, the second with 19.9 seconds to play that led the Rainbow Wahine to have to foul Matthews four seconds later.

Katie Schafer had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lumberjacks.
