Skiing: Italy's Fanchini wins World Cup super G

LAKE LOUISE, Alberta — Nadia Fanchini of Italy won the season-opening super giant slalom today on the women's World Cup circuit.
She was timed in 1 minute, 20.97 seconds, with Fabienne Suter of Switzerland and Andrea Fischbacher of Austria sharing second in 1:21.25. Anja Paerson of Sweden was fourth in 1:21.31.
Canadians Emily Brydon and Kelly VanderBeek of Kitchener were sixth and seventh.
