Bowling: Bohn III, Dorin-Ballard win on PBA Tour

Associated Press

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Parker Bohn III beat Mike Scroggins 242-198 and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard edged Stefanie Nation 208-204 to win titles at the PBA Tour's Cheetah Championship today.

The top-seeded Bohn, of Jackson, N.J., earned $25,000 by defeating the No. 3-seeded Scroggins, of Amarillo, Texas.

"I had one ball that worked all week, my Twisted Fury; I had tried to use others, but it was almost impossible to get through the pins," said Bohn, who is fifth on the list of PBA Tour titlists with 32.

Dorin-Ballard, of North Richland Hills, Texas, earned her second career PBA Women's Series title by throwing a clutch strike on the first shot of the 10th frame. She then spared a 1-2-4-10 washout to force Nation to strike the first shot in the 10th frame. Nation left a stubborn 10 pin to give Dorin-Ballard the title.

"This was a very emotional day for me," Dorin-Ballard said. "It's Pearl Harbor Day, and my dad was a POW. in World War II, and I felt like he was looking out for me."

Dorin-Ballard got $10,000 for her victory.

"Stefanie did really well in the 10th, but I got a break and took it," Dorin-Ballard said. "The lanes were tight and if I didn't catch it the way I needed to, I wouldn't have gotten the strikes."

The PBA Tour continues next week at the Lumber Liquidators Shark Championship at Country Club Lanes in Baltimore.
