Associated Press

TEMPE, Ariz. — Keisha Kanekoa scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had six assists as Hawaii beat UC-Irvine, 74-46, today in the consolation game of the Arizona State Classic.

Rebecca Maessen scored 10 points for the Anteaters (3-4) before fouling out with 6:04 remaining.

Dita Leipkalne added 12 points for the Rainbow Wahine (2-7), which outrebounded UC-Irvine 46-18, including a 25-8 advantage in the second half as Hawaii pulled away.

UC-Irvine committed 13 first-half fouls and Hawaii converted 15-of-16 free throws as a result in grabbing a 38-24 lead at the break.

The Rainbow Wahine also scored 17 points off eight Anteater turnovers in the first 20 minutes. UC-Irvine never got closer than 11 in the second half.

UC-Irvine was within 25-20 with 6:43 left before halftime but Hawaii made six quick free throws, including two when coach Molly Goodenour was whistled for a technical. Kanekoa added four more points and Hawaii led 38-20 with 3:40 left.

Allie Patterson had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Rainbow Wahine while Mary Has had 12 points for UC-Irvine.

UC-Irvine's 24 first-half points were more than it scored in its 75-23 loss to host No. 25 Arizona State in Saturday's first round.

The host Sun Devils won the tournament, beating Northern Arizona 91-65 earlier in the day.
