'Akaka Falls State Park closed through Friday

'Akaka Falls State Park will be closed through Friday for installation of concrete sidewalks and stairways.

The project is part of the final phase of improvements to address the safety of park visitors and enhance their experience at the popular park, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The park include lookouts at 'Akaka Falls and Kahuna Falls, a nearly half-mile loop footpath connecting the two lookouts and a lush landscape of tropical plants and trees.

New hand rails will be installed early next year and additional work is expected to continue through March and April, the department said.

For more information, call the park office at 808-974-6200.
