Weather: Showers, thunderstorms possible today

Weak southeasterly prevailing winds will allow sea breezes to build showers inland this afternoon, and a few of these could develop into thunderstorms over Kauai or Oahu, the National Weather Service said.

More widespread showers with stronger southerlies will affect the state from Wednesday night into the weekend, forecasters said.Here's a closer look at what's expected the next few days:

Today: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind around 9 mph becoming south.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday: Scattered showers. Widespread haze. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday Night: Scattered showers. Widespread haze. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday: Frequent showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Widespread haze. High near 74. Breezy, with a south wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Frequent showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Widespread haze. Low around 67. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
