Rescue crews searching for missing diver off Maui

Advertiser Staff

The channel between Lahaina and Lana'i is the focus of a search tonight for a diver who went missing this afternoon while on an outing aboard a commercial fishing boat and diving with three other people.

Rescue crews from the Coast Guard and Maui Fire Department are looking for any signs of Tam Sing, 69, who was wearing a black wet suit and scuba gear.

He went missing approximately five miles west of Maui at 1 p.m., the Coast Guard said in a news release.

A rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point, a Coast Guard Station Maui small boat crew, a crew from the Coast Guard Cutter Ahi and Maui Fire Department personnel are searching the channel.

Coast Guard crews plan to search throughout the night.

Anyone with further information about the missing man should contact Coast Guard Sector Honolulu at 808-842-2600.
